Jesus, Teach Me What It Means to Love

Jesus, teach me what it means to love
As one infinite and perfect does.
Let a current of Thy godly care
Flow through me unto Thy children near.

Should I speak the truth or should I trust?
Use a heavy hand or gentle touch?
Sharpness when the Holy Ghost commands;
If He’s silent do I stay my hand?

What is love if not the kindest words?
Yet so often revelation hurts.
What is love if not concern for growth?
So much suffering seems pointless, though.

If I love, will others love me too?
Some, but many flaws will stay with you.
Can love change the ones I hold most dear?
Yes, but only if they choose to hear.

Why is love in me so often weak?
God is love and He created me!
If I serve but cannot muster love,
Is it void or will You fill me up?

Flowing through me to Thy children near,
Send a current of Thy godly care.
As one infinite and perfect does,
Jesus, teach me what it means to love.
